Your brain, your skin, and your heart are just three of your organs working continuously to maintain life. Organs are literally amazing in their resilience and pure desire to live. Even if you lose 90% of the cells in your kidney, the remaining 10% can overwork so that you won’t notice any symptoms. Before reaching that level of dis-ease, organs that are not working properly present signs that can be discovered by well trained Doctors of Chiropractic. When organs are not functioning properly, Chiropractors call this a “subluxated organ”.

Organ anatomy, physiology, and motility

All of the organs have a specific placement in the body (anatomy), a specific function (physiology), and a specific movement (motility). For example, the kidney has a natural movement sliding up and down the PSOAS muscle between 2-3cm. When this movement is lost, the organ can find itself in the wrong position and become stuck there. When an organ is stuck, there is an impact on its specific function.

Ref. 1

Organ dis-ease

A prime example of this is the stomach, which has the function of using acid to digest food. The stomach squeezes itself in a direction towards and away from the diaphragm, mixing food with acid to digest food before passing it on. The stomach has two valves – an intake valve to receive food and an output valve to pass it on to the small intestines. When the stomach becomes stuck in the diaphragm, the intake valve (Lower Oesophagal Sphincter) cannot close properly – see ref 1. When this valve does not close properly, the stomach chamber cannot produce enough acid to digest food properly without the acid flowing backwards up towards the throat – commonly known as “heartburn” or “gastric reflux”.

Finding organ problems

In this way, the movement of an organ can change its location in the body and impair its function. When this happens, indicators appear on the body caused by inflammation of the “subluxated organ”. These indicators can be found in different places, for example along the back of the skull (according to Dejarnette, a renowned Chiropractor and Osteopath). In the case of the stomach, the indicators are on the left side of the chest and can even create enough tension between the skull, throat, and chest to create headaches. An experienced Chiropractor can find an out of place organ just by touching it and feeling the tone of that organ.

Chiropractic solutions

When your Chiropractor adjusts your organs, there are three objectives: 1) drain away stuck energy and inflammation; 2) reposition the organ towards its normal anatomical position, thereby establishing normal motility; and 3) reconnecting the organ with the central nervous system so that the brain can start the healing process of cells that were damaged due to malposition and inflammation.
